Found this really interesting. Lol the patriotic pin and wondering what it means. Thanks for sharing Whole New World. You've already done a lot in a short time!
Kathy, you have so perfectly described my experience moving to Chesapeake Beach, MD in March. Your last part, "Real, not yet" I could have written word for word. I still troll Zillow on the lookout for a DC "crash pad" to own or rent for occasional overnight forays back "home." And I have decided I will be planted there one day: husband and I got spots at Oak Hill.
Your comment about Cuba, writing after a week, a month, a lifetime--I was told exactly the same story when I visited Cairo, Egypt as a young woman. True no matter the location! Thanks so much for this. I'm currently visiting my sister and brother-in-law in a retirement community in Colorado. They have had some of the same challenges you face--living closely with folks who do not share their political views. I look forward to your future reflections!
Glad that the move was smooth, and that you are finding ways to immerse in both the reality of the new and the slow letting loose of the old (I never say "go" because, as you said, it will always be a part of you, just the grip loosens). Beautiful post, and I look forward to hearing more about your adventures in your new place!
Looking forward to the ongoing process 🙂I think the + will be more than the - ! Good luck

So glad you have moved to this small town — may it be good home to and for you!!!
Really enjoyed reading this, Cathy. Enjoy your trip to DC!
